2017 Events Review
This year the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Commission adopted the mantra "Nourishing Growth" not only for the annual Exhibition event but for the Complex as a whole. Throughout the last 12 months, the NSPEC Complex has begun to grow and evolve in an effort to carry out our defined mission: To provide the people of Colchester County with an agricultural, entertainment, and community-centric gathering place where they can participate in events, conduct business, learn, and be entertained.
A resounding success in 2017 was TAPPED Truro Craft Beer Fest. The sold-out crowd enjoyed live music, tasted craft brews from across Nova Scotia, took a spin on Big Bruce the Mechanical Bull, and even tried their hand at axe throwing supplied by Timber Lounge of Halifax. Attendees raved about the relaxed atmosphere, the quality of the event, and shared their excitement at having a craft beer event at home in Truro.
After the overwhelming response and encouragement from the community regarding TAPPED, a sister event was created for wine & spirits enthusiasts: BOTTLED Truro Wine & Spirits Festival. The Gatsby inspired evening featured Nova Scotian wineries and distilleries, aerialists and fire buskers from Atlantic Cirque, a casino corner, the CEC Jazz Combo, and Truro’s Hunt Indoors pellet hand gun range for the adventurous!
On top of our “in-house” creations were familiar annual events. DAL AC hosted their 32nd Annual Rick Russell Woodsmen Competition. The Truro Saints Rugby Club presented the 39th Truro Indoor Rugby Tournament featuring teams from across Canada. In July the Downeast Bluegrass Festival returned as did the EastGen 4-H Showcase and Atlantic Grand Circuit Week. Also visiting the 65 acre NSPEC Complex throughout the year were: dog shows; farm safety workshops; 4-H competitions and achievement days; community events like the Senior Games; Barrel Racing jackpots; Sunnyvale Productions; the Backstretch Horse show; and more!
As an event venue, the NSPEC Complex is uniquely positioned to cater to the broadening array of events the Truro area is attracting. With an on-site campground, a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces, and the geographical advantage of being close to downtown Truro in the hub of the province, event planners are recognizing the Complex as a place to be in 2018.
